The scheme offers 10-25 year olds one-to-one support, using trained volunteers to enable young people to address problems they are experiencing.

Meetings are expected to take place weekly with the mentor and young person choosing a time suitable to both. Each meeting lasts for a minimum of 2 hours.

Together they set goals relating to areas the young person has highlighted in their Action Plan. Activities are based around the young person’s interests and are used to achieve the following desired outcomes:

  • Increased confidence/self esteem
  • Greater independence/responsibility
  • Increased capacity to solve problems
  • Ability to initiate and sustain actions
  • Better management of emotions and relationships

Mentoring can take place both at the Bridge Mentoring Plus Scheme centre where a variety of workshops and activities are available or in the community using community facilities.

Relationships are reviewed quarterly and progress monitored. It is expected that the mentoring relationship would last between six months and a year.
